Sytchampton Endowed Primary School

Event - Green Flag Award Celebration

15 May 2014

We are delighted to have been awarded our sixth Green Flag award, in recognition of our work in preserving and enhancing the local and global environments.

Our Eco-committee regularly perform an energy patrol to ensure lights and equipment are not left on when not being used, we have made our gardens and grounds butterfly and insect friendly, and spend time in school on eco-themed curriculum work. We have even fundraised to be able to sponsor a tiger.

Mrs Fox, retired Deputy Head, started the Eco-programme at Sytchampton over 12 years ago, and to have achieved our sixth award is an amazing achievement. No other school in Worcestershire has achieved this.

Morgan Phillips, head of education at Keep Britain Tidy, said this latest award put the school alongside only a handful of others across the UK. He said "Having the flags for 12 years is a real indication that a school has fully embedded sustainability in the curriculum of the school and in with this, the children’s learning".

Mrs Fox joined us on Thursday May 15th for a small celebration and was given the honour of raising the new flag. Mrs Williams and Mrs Cutler with two of the Eco-committee will be attending a celebration at Worcestershire County Council in July.
